Sandra Gisela Ramos, Board MemberJudge Sandra Gisela Ramos is a first generation Mexican American, one of six children. She attended DePaul University where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Depaul University’s College of Law where she received her Juris Doctor. She attended law school, full time at night while employed full time by the Chicago Bar Association as Administrator of their Battered Women’s Program.
Upon graduation, she worked for the Cook County State’s Attorney in their Criminal Division rising to the Felony Trial Division at 26th and California. Eight years later, She started my own firm, S.G. Ramos Ltd. Specializing in criminal defense. As an attorney in private practice, she volunteered for legal services to First Legal Defense. This organization assisted individuals detained by law enforcements who did not have the resources to retain private counsel. Her practice thrived for 17 years. She practiced in New York, Miami, Wisconsin , Michigan , Minnesota and Indiana. |
In 2010, she had the privilege and honor to be elected Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She was the first female Hispanic to be endorsed by the Democratic Party in a County-wide race. She asked for and received assignments in the Criminal Section of the First Municipal Division. In January, 2019, she was transferred to the Law Division/Trial Section.
In 2013, she along with other Latino judges started the Illinois Latin Judges Association(ILJA) to promote diversity on the bench. She was acting president until 2018. She currently sits on ILJA's Board of Directors and is the organization's second Vice President. |
