Judge Perla Tirado, Board MemberPerla is currently assigned to the First Municipal Division at the Daley Center. She has presided over commercial and residential evictions, the Consumer Debt Early Resolution Program, and civil jury trials. Judge Tirado is a member of several bar associations and mentors law students throughout the year.
As an attorney, Perla held positions in government, private practice, and non-profit legal assistance. She began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in Cook County. She later transitioned into private practice where she handled both criminal and civil matters in Cook County and surrounding collar counties. Prior to becoming a judge, she worked as a supervising attorney for Beyond Legal Aid, formerly known as the Community Activism Law Alliance. In her time at Beyond Legal Aid, she was a supervising attorney, where she helped recently hired attorneys to develop their lawyering and trial skills. Perla also coordinated a weekly free legal clinic in partnership with Enlace Chicago, and represented clients in civil, criminal and immigration matters and removal defense. She received her bachelor’s degree from Boston College, where she double majored in Philosophy and Theology. She received her law degree from DePaul University College of Law, with a Certificate in International Law. |
